BENNIE
KLAIN, Co-producer
Award-winning
journalist Bennie Klain
is co-producer of the official Sundance Film Festival 2000 selection
The Return of Navajo Boy.
Klain's
career in media began as a program director for public radio
station KGHR-FM in Tuba City, Arizona. He first gained recognition
for producing "Windsongs," a Native American music program,
which was syndicated nationally by the American Indian Radio
on Satellite (AIROS) network and funded by Native American Public
Telecommunications.
A member
of the Navajo Nation, Klain eventually left public radio to
work for KTNN, a commercial radio station licensed to the Navajo
Nation. While at KTNN, he worked as a news reporter while anchoring
three daily Navajo language newscasts.
In 1998,
Klain was presented with the Best Newscast Award by Arizona
Associated Press, while KTNN's news team placed first in the
competition for Best Newscast in the state of Arizona. In 1997,
he received the New Mexico Broadcasters Associations Best Newscast
Award, as well as Arizona Associated Press' Best Feature Production
Award.
Klain currently
resides in Austin, Texas where he is enrolled in the school
of Radio/TV/Film at the University of Texas.
